July 4, 2010

Thought I'd post something a bit different for the holiday weekend. Found these drawings in an old sketchbook from the mid 90's. I spent the 4th of July that year on Naushon Island, near Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Owned by Forbes family descendants, the island was unpopulated but had a number of mansion-sized homes that were mostly vacant until some visiting group took up residence for a vacation. I hiked around, stopping to sketch some of the more impressive structures. We stayed in the stately house shown in the first sketch below. Had a memorable time with my friend Jonathan Meath and his gracious family, who invited me for the holiday.
Thanks again, JM.
